NGAERE SCHOOL CONTROL
PURCHASE OF GRAMOPHONE. The roll remained the same and the attendance was very good, said the headmaster, Mr. T. Taylor, in reporting to a meeting of the Ngaere school committee. The physical instructor, Mr. Roydhouse, had visited the school for the purpose of instituting life-saving drill and methods of resuscitation. The probationary teacher, Mr. G. W. Wellington, had passed in all the subjects for which he had sat and had completed class D with the exception of one subject. For the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs’ competitions 25 entries had been received, this constituting a. record number for the school. Hedges had been attended to and the site of the old school had been sown with grass. At the direction of the committee a gramophone and records had been purchased, the records being chiefly these recommended for folk dancing by the physical instructress, Miss Blackie. The headmaster’s action in replacing some of the cricket material was approved. Matters in connection with the lawn mowers and roller were left to Mr. J. Scott to attend to.
I“NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH.” ELTHAM TALKIE PROGRAMME. “Nothing But The Truth” is a veritable laugh-factoyy, turning out two giggles and one guffaw per second. It ?s°the first all-talking farce Paramount has produced to satisfy a -farce-hungry public, and it sets a high standard. A dyspeptic pessimist could see and hear it and leave the theatre a chuckling optimist. This 'delightful 'comedy will be screened at the Eltham Theatre tonight.’ A feature of the production is Helen .Kane, “Baby’Talk” wonder,; singing “Do Something.” TJie story is of a young man who bets lie could tell the truth for twenty-four hours. Imagine his embarrassment when his friends started asking personal questions. It is really hard to describe this laugh quake except to say it is the funniest thing seen for years.
