BUSINESS OF PARLIAMENT

MORALITY OF YOUNG PEOPLE, CRITICISM OF. PUBLICATION, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the House of representatives to-day Mr. R. A. Wright asked the Minister of Education if his attention had been drawn to statements appearing on page 469 of the book published under the title of “Education in New Zealand” in which seriouA allegations were made concerning the morality of the young people of the Dominion, and-if so, seeing that the book was subsidised by the Educatin Department, would the Minister urge the author, to have the offending passages - expunged and so remove an unjust reflection from the young people of New. Zealand? The Hon. H. Atmore said his attention had been drawn to the statement. Mr. Butcher had undertaken to write in regard to New Zealand when Mr. Wright was Minister of Education and his figures were taken from the New Zealand Official Year Book. Mr. Butcher had used the Year Book for his information. Mr. Fraser: For a rotten inference! Mr. Atmore: I believe the character of New Zealand girls is equal to, if not superior to, that of any girls throughout the world- , , The Hon. W. B. Taverner presented the report of Professor Hornell on the Arapuni hydro-electric scheme. The Speaker communicated to the House the result of the Waipawa by-election and the new member, Mr. A. E. Jull, was sworn in, Messrs. W. J. Broadfoot and J. A. MacPherson acting as sponsors.
