The Court returns at New Plymouth for the quarter ended September 30 show that the number of criminal cases against males was 298 as against 29for the same period last year; against females 8 as against 6 last year; a total of 216 for the quarter ended September 30, 1930, as against 298 for the same .period last year., A total of £o4o 6s was paid in fees and fines foi the 1930 quarter ,as ..against £837 3s Od for the same quarter last year. In -parentheses:—Number, of sittings presided over by a Magistrate. civil 17 (.17), criminal 34 (33); number of siltings presided over by Justices of the Peace, civil 1 (ml), criminal 13 (18); total number of sittings during the quarter, civil 17 (17), criminal 47 (51); total amount sued lor £5351 5s 5d (£4063 2s 9d); plaints entered 344 (238); judgment summonses issued 67 (S 3 warrants of commital issued 11 (4).
