Jack Haines (11.6), middleweight champion of Australia, easily defeated Artie Hay (10.13), light-heavyweight, middle and welter champion of New Zealand, in three rounds at the Stadium. In the first round the men appeared to be only sparring, but midway through the second Hay went down foi* the count of eight, Haines renewed the attack viciously and the New Zealander went down for nine. He was on the floor again just as the bell rang. Haines started the third round by flooring his opponent with a heavy right to the ribs. The referee then stopped the fight. Hay was game and landed a few punches on the head, but never troubled Haines.
