CHAMPIONSHIP COMMENCES. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 8.30 p.m. Melbourne, Sept. 11. Play in the national open golf championsliip of Australia began to-day on the Metropolitan links at Oakleigh with a round of 18 holes which will be followed by another similar round to-mor-row, after which the leading players will enter upon the elimination rounds. Some of the best scores to-day were: Eyre, Russell 76, Fawcett, Spence 79, Nettle fold SI, Campbell, Howard, Lefevre, Naismith, Edgar 82, Whitton, Jackson S 3. Bulte, Stewart 84, Sawers, Robertson, Sloan Morpeth 85, Apperley 86, Hattersley 87.
