RANDOLPH ROSE LEADS HELD CHAMPIONSHIP .TO H. J. BROWN. OTAGO’S TEAMS’ RACE AND SHIELD By Telegraph.—Press Association. ■Wellington, Aug. 30. Leading the field for practically the whole of the distance, R. A. Rose, exAustralian champion,’ was first man home for the first time in the New Zealand cross-country championships at the Hutt Park on Saturday. The teams’ race and the championship shield went to Otago after a stern struggle with Wellington for the honours. Through most of the race the Wellington men were prominent in team work, but in. the dying stages Otago took command and ' won by a comfortable margin in points. Although Rose was the first man home, the individual championship goes to H. J- Brown, New Plymouth (Wa-nganui-Taranaki centre), Rose not be- . ino- eligible, to receive the title, as he was not a member of a team. Brown was prominently placed throughout but his victory is due to his finishing effort, The Canterbury men were inconspicuous individually and as a team and never looked like winners.
