The mild spring rains are having , a phenomenal effect on the growth of the pastures all over the country, and should no adverse climatic conditions occur in the near future, it is evident that dairymen are going to have a wonderful season for production, states Newton King, Ltd. Replacements and replenishing have been in full force with dairymen throughout the week. This has resulted in splendid sales of dairy cattle, and the state of the paddocks is causing graziers ■to look for . stock. In view of this, all classes have , been selling particularly well. , . The entries of yearling heifers at all sales have been very large, and almost complete clearances have been effected at prices very satisfactory to vendors. At Urenui those of the. best quality realised up to' £-5, at Stratford £5 ss. to £5 Jis., at Inglewood £6 Bs. 65. down to £5 65., at Rahotu, the best, which were only medium ,in.. siz<?, made up. to £4 16s. At Inglewood the dairy herd offered on behalf of Mr. .Volzki sold at from £ll to £l7 10s., the herd of 16 cows averaging £l3 10s. They were all of the Jersey strain, but low in condition. At Rahotu the herd sold on -behalf of the estate of the late H. D. Shaw was in poor condition and included many late-calvers. The cows were mixed in colour. A satisfactory clearance was made, the best prices being between £8 and £l2 10s. Horse fairs have been held at Stony River, Waiwakaiho, Inglewood and Kaponga during the week. Half-draught, horses, suitable for all farm work, have been the best selling class, and the youngest and best of these are making between £2B and £’3s.
