RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
HAWERA TO PLAY OLD BOYS. - The Rugby championship final between Old Boys (northern winners) and Hawera (southern winners) will take place at Stratford to-morrow. The Old Ebys team is making its first, appearance in a championship final but Hawera has played a prominent part in the south in past’years. ‘ / •' Hawera perhaps has the advantage in the forwards and Old Boys in the backs. Hawera won ten matches during the competition, lost three and had one drawn. Tile team scored 133 points and had 62 points scored against it. The Old Boys team won 12 matches, lost one, drew in one, scored 246 points arid had 74 points scored agairist, it. Provided the weather is fine and the ground dry and if they can obtain their share of th© ball, the Old Boys backs .will play a prominent part, but the Hawera backs have shown that they can drive, home attacking movemerits. The Purangi-Matau Rugby team on Saturday defeated Tarata and thus won the shield .Tarata had held, since 1922, when it was won from Ratapiko. 1 This season Egmpnt Village drew with Tarata for the shield, but was long in arranging another match.‘Purangi challenged Tarata and was successful in bringing the shield home, the scores being Purangi 6 Tarata 3.
