CRICKET MATCH DRAWN

AUSTRALIA 405 FOR EIGHT BATTING PRACTICE FOR TEST RICHARDSON BATS WELL By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, August 12. The Australia v. Northamptonshire match was drawn, Australia compiling 405 runs for the. loss of eight wickets at the drawing of stumps in the second innings. The match was resumed in fine weather. The Australians devoted the last day of the match to batting practice for the test. •; The wicket was easy though slightly worn. Jupp soon rooted up Hurwood’s stump.. Bradman began cheekily but later the runs came slowly. Jupp was worrying Woodfull, who took an hour to make 13. He and Bradman wiped off the deficit but with the total at 173 Bradman failed to connect cleanly and was caught at mid-on. He was slower than usual but still attractive. The 200 occupied 220 minutes. Kippax batted brightly for 25 minutes and then fell a victim to Jupp, being caught on the boundary. After lunch Richardson hit freely, scoring three fours off one over from Thomas. Woodfull meanwhile cautiously approached the 100, which he compiled in 290 minutes in a sound, solid innings. Richardson riddled the field with fours and reached 50 in 65 minutes, timing perfectly. The 300 took 310 minutes. Woodfull was out next ball. Fairfax again failed.

■ Richardson and a’Beckett continued to hit merrily, the former making a chancelcss century in 110 minutes. Not long afterwards he was brilliantly caught at midoff. He hit one sixer and 17 fours, a great contrast with Woodfull’s three fours. It was undoubtedly Richardson’s best innings in England. The scores are:— NORTHAMPTON SHIRE. First Innings 249 AUSTRALIA. ENGLISH TEAM FOR TEST. WYATT REPLACES CHAPMAN. London, August 12. The selectors invited the following cricketers to be in attendance at the Oval on August 16 for the fifth test: Wyatt (captain), Duleepsinhji, Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Whysall, Hammond, Leyland, Hendren, Parker, Tate, Larwood, Duckworth, Peebles, Ames. Wyatt, who was appointed this year captain of Warwickshire, will be captain of the test team in place of Chapman, who is not included in the team. Wyatt did well in India in 1924, playing for the English team, and in 1925 he played in all the matches in South Africa,

The choice of 14 players has been made, it is understood, to enable the selectors to field a team good for either a dry or a wet wicket.

Chapman, interviewed by the Daily Mail, said: “I am most disappointed at not haying the opportunity of leading England in the decisive test.”

He cites his test record in Australia and England and says that he cannot understand why he was withdrawn. “If the real reason is that England’s batting needs strengthening it is a malZer for regret that my average in the present series of tests is only 44. I think England has a good chance of retaining tho ashes, and with all my heart I wish Wyatt’s team complete success.”
