ROTORUA-TAUPO RAILWAY
RESUMPTION OF WORK ASKED . FOR
(By Wire— Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. The immediate resumption of wprk on the Rotorua-Taupo railway was sought in a petition presented to Parliament to-day on behalf of Mr. Dynes Fulton, farmer, of Tuakau, and seventeen others. Petitioners stated that they had personally inspected the country and in their opinion the land could readily be brought into good pasture by modern methods. It could be made equal to the Waikato lands. They were informed, the petitioners added, that the country comprised by far the largest area of land now available in New Zealand for settlement in small areas, but for successful close settlement the railway was absolutely necessary. Two Royal Commissions and two or more Parliamentary committees had, after full and careful inquiry, unanimously recommended the immediate’ construction of the railway. Parliament had authorised the construction as far as Reparoa, and in pursuance of that authority a large sum of public money had already been expended on the railway.
