LITHUANIAN EX-PREMIER. ’ < Kovno, July 30. Because it was felt that his presence menaced publio order. Lithuania has expelled M. Valdcmaras, the former Premier. Motor-lorries removed his belongings from his flat, which, will’be sealed up (luring his absence. M. Valdemaras was well known as the “Enfant Terrible” of the League of Nations. In May, 1929, he narrowly escaped assassination, when students with a hand-grenade killed his ’ step-son and aide-de-camp. After the expulsion the ; Lithuanian authorities ordered a stricter isolation of M. Valdemaras owing to friends threatening to attempt his release. M. Valdemaras at present is confined in a small wooden house in a lonely village. The local priest is his only companion. The house is meagrely furnished, and M. Valdemaras sleeps on a sofa. The authorities also arrested 19 of his supporters in Kovno. The present Premier, M. Tubelis, stated that the internment will last as long as martial law continues in Kovno. M. Valdemaras, despite warnings, he alleges, had been, constantly: > fomenting discontent and disorders.
