It is reported that the Government has decided that criminal proceedings shall not be instituted after December against people disposing of motor-cars before they have completed hire purchase payments. It is pointed out that much of the present depression’ i« due to the people having no money except for instalments for motors, traders of which should not have a prior claim over other creditors. Eighty per cent, of cars are being sold on the hire purchase system. ..Ministers in recent speeches have given attention to the excessive' number of motorists in conwarison with income tax payers. The motor trade regards the action as a tremendous blow.
