ALPINE CLUB GATHERING
WEEK-END-AT NORTH EGMONT. A most enjoyable week-end was spent at North Egmont by 116 alpine club members, representatives of the province’s three clubs. It was at the invitation of the Taranaki Alpine Club that the gathering was held, the weekend being instigated as a return function to' that recently held under the auspices of the Mt. Egmont Club at Dawson Falls. A dinner and a dance were held in the hostel on Saturday evening. Many motors found difficulty in negotiating the track. , ' On Sunday a party numbering oyer 90, led by Mr. K. Tompkins, left for the vicinity of the Hen and Chickens on the Dawson Falls track. Icy condiditions prevailed and a return was made to the gully at Humphries Castle, where glissading and ski-ing were carried on till late in the afternoon. Another party of 13 accomplished the summit trip under the leadership of Mr. L. Lovell. It was intensely cold' and the mist was thick. Upon arrival at the eastern lip of the crater the party turned and made the return trip in safety and good time. They suffered much from the effects of freezing mist.
