Somerset's early batsmen fared badly against the bowling of a’Beckett and. Harwood. At one stage four were out for ten runs. White made a stand, and at lunch the was five wickets for 60.
A stiff. breeze helped the bowlers to swing the ball. Grimmett took th® wickets of White and Hawkins in his first over after the adjournment. Wellard hit fiercely and raised the score to 100 in 115 minutes. With his dismissal the innings soon ended. The Somerset total would have been much smaller had dropped catches been accepted. This was the. third lowest score against the visitors since their tour started. z Jackson and Ponsford opened for Australia, but the latter failed to get goiug. Hunt bowled four successive maidens to Bradman, who remained for 20 minutes without scoring. Jackson took 35 minutes to make six, and then he was dropped in the 'slips. Bradman waa not himself, and mishit and timed badly. Australia’s laborious 50 took 85 minutes. Bradman later brightened somewhat, but his partner’s 25 occupied 105 minutes.
