PROSPECTING FOR GOLD
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE GIVEN.

Wellington, Last Night. The Hon. R. Scott asked, when the Legislative Council, met to-day, if the Government would take into consideration the advisability of granting a subsidy on all gold produced w'thin the Dominion with a view to providing remunerative work for a large number of men at .present unemployed. The Hon. R. Masters replied that it was impracticable to give financial assistance in the direction indicated. The Government was subsidising prospecting operations for gold in suitable areas.
