RESIGNATION OF CHAIRMAN

AN EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION

By Telegraph.— Press Association.

Invercargill, Last Night.

The results of the ward elections for two members of the Southland Education Board were' announced to-day. The defeat of Mr. W. Carswell by Mr. F. G. Stevenson by one vote in the Invercargill urban area has had a farreaching effect, the chairman of the hoard (Mr. A. W. Jones), regarding it as a vote of no-confidence and tendering his resignation. Mr. Stevenson was for many years secretary of the board. Mr. Jones said the reason for his action was that he had made it perfectly plain that he was prepared to stand or fall by the policy to which he had pledged himself and which Mr. Carswell had loyally supported.
