PUNGAREHU HALL

THE OPENING CEREMONY. ■ Some idea of the crowd that attended the opening ceremony at the now Pungarehu hall on Wednesday evening may be gathered from the fact that £93 was taken at the door, exclusive of the sale of tickets. No less than 170 cars were parked in the vicinity of the hall under the supervision of the Egmont county inspector. The supper was provided by the ladies of tho district on a very lavish scale. It was no light task to cater for the crowd of over 600, but so splendid was the organisation that sitting followed sitting without the slightest delay. The ladies responsible were Mesdames E. H. Gray, W. Corbett, H. Ehrhorn, S. L. Goodin, F. Larkin, N. Heisenhittel,. H. Gilhooley, S. Hamil, B. Shaw, F. Smith, F. Grinlinton, S. Renton, J. .Priest, W. Laurence, J. Hart, P. C. Smith, Misses A. and I. Corbett, M. > and L. Gilhooley, I. Gray, B. and M. Newport, M. and B. Fleming. The committee responsible for the decoration of the hall carried through their task with artistic touch, well deserving the encomiums that were showered upon them. Mr. A. Roots was the moving spirit and he was assisted by Misses I. Corbett and I. Gray, Messrs. E. H. Gray, G. Gray, S. Renton and B. A. Layard. As the outcome of the opening ball a considerable sum should accrue to the

hall committee as the expenses had been kept down to a minimum, the ladies providing all the supper and the committee working enthusiastically.
