PATEA BOROUGH COUNCIL

UNEMPLOYED RELIEF SCHEMES. The Mayor (Mr. F. Ramsbottom) presided at a special meeting of the Patea Borough Council convened to discuss unemployment relief measures and the erection of a fence to enclose the municipal buildings. Tree-planting at the Domain will be included in the schedule of relief works to' be placed before the Public Works inspecting engineer. It is intended to plant a shelter belt of trees approximately a chain wide to join the existing trees on the rifle range and Oxford Street to embrace the lake paddock and form a continuous shelter belt. The employment of married men will be recommended before single men who will probably find employment with the Public Works Department at Waitotara.

He would recommend that the work, be put in hand forthwith. Suggestions in various, designs in brick were submitted with prices and were placed on the table. No design quite coincided with the council’s requirements. Messrs. Carey and Naismith were appointed a committee to. go into details of erecting a 3ft. fence in brick. o PATEA PERSONALS. Mrs. F.
