DISMISSALS FROM RAILWAYS
RATIONING FLAN DISAPPROVED.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Dunedin, July 15.
A mass meeting of employees at the Hillside railway workshops passed a resolution disapproving the Minister’s suggestion of rationed work as being class taxation, and urging him to cancel all dismissal notices until the Railway Commission’s report is available* The meeting expressed the opinion that the pruning knife should have been first applied to the highly-paid officials, whom they alleged to be responsible for the present conditions. The meeting directed attention to the many useless positions created under tlie reorganisation scheme, urging also the suspension of the Railways Magazine, which is costing nearly £Boo*o annually. Arrangements have been made for the Royal Commission investigating the position of the railways to visit Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin. The dates of arrival will be notified in advance to expedite matters.
