The sympathies of the Magistrate were all with the motorist Hn a case
heard at Hastings the other day, when the defendant, charged with driving without a license, pleaded that he had /
been driving for 25 years in many countries and prided himself on his knowledge of the regulations. Travelling over* New Zealand regularly he had been under the impression that he should renew his license at the town from which it was issued. “I quite sympathise with you,” said the magistrate, “the motorists’ regulations are so hedged . about with varied interpretations that it is a difficult matter to observe them sometimes. The fact remains, however, that you have a motor-car in Hastings without a license.” Defendant was ordered to pay costs.
Pedestrians in Tennyson Street and Market Place, Napier, says the Daily Telegraph, have frequently admired the patience of a fox terrier whose town “offices” appeal’ to be situated at the corner of the two streets.
