ELTHAM HOCKEY CLUB

The following will represent Eitham against Waitara in a hockey match at Taumata Park to-day.- Foreman, Cooper, Knuckey, Colson, Cocker, Stauners, Gower, Irwin, Murray. Donnelly, Taylor, Gleutworth, Cullen, Whittington. The following have been chosen from the Eitham Club to play in tbe representative trial matches at Kapouga ou Wednesday and at Hawera on July 21: Goal. A. Bennett; full-back, R. Foreman; centre half, C. Colson: forwards, I. Stunners, V. Nairn, R. Irwin.

HUIROA DISTRICT NEWS. The Huirou branch of the Farmers’ Union was responsible for the presence of Air. J. M. Smith to lecture in the schoolroom on July 3 on pastures management and the benefits of top-dress-ing. A fair number of farmers was present and Mr. J. Wood presided. It is a great pity that more farmers do not attend these meetings, a<s they are of great importance to ones success. The lectures cannot be continued unless they are more liberally patronised. A very pleasant evening was spent in the Huiroa schoolroom on Friday, when a kitchen tea was given by residents to Miss Lelia Wallace in view of her approaching marriage to Air. H. Carr, schoolmaster at Marco Road, The schoolroom was crowded. Mr. 11. R. Wickham presided and spoke of the good qualities of Miss Wallace and asked her to accept the many gifts from the residents.

Mr. W. Massey and Mr. G. Ritchie endorsed the chairman’s remarks. Mr. Carr replied and thanked the residents for their kindness. Mr. W. H. Wallace, father of the guest, thanked the residents ou behalf of his daughter. A dance followed and proved one of the jolliest held in the district for many a day. Alias Wihuhurst provided the music, extras being played by .Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. A. W. Martin, Miss Gwen Reid and. Miss Phyllis Stanford. Mr. H. Read was master of ceremonies.

Mr. Harry Bowen, Bulls, is staying with his brother, Mr. A. H. Bowen, Mrs. V. Bevins and family have left for a holiday in Wellington.

‘ PERSONAL. The Inglewood Borough Council on Tuesday congratulated the Hon. R. Masters oT his elevation to the Legislative Council.
