FASHION NOTES

LEAVES FROM A DIARY, A FRENCHWOMAN’S NOTES. .(By Colline - Rouff. —Special to News.) If I were miked to name the moot important garment in the smart woman's wardrobe this season, I should say at onoe, ( ‘the blouse.” Since the suit with the waisted line is so firmly established, blouses for wear , with it demand serious attention. Every woman must have a nice little stock of them if she does not want to find herself without a ■ fresh one to put on for some special occasion. ' The morning ‘•'blouses” are often little jerseys of line woven wool, or knitted Shetland wool, ■ the Parisienne being very fond of the beautiful Shetland type for sports wear. It may be in a plain colour, or in several blended tones to go with the suit. These little garments are" quite short, and are fitted to the waist' with bands of tighter stitches, so "that they make scarcely any bulk beneath the skirt waist. A particularly nice one in black and white wool, in a cubist design, has a, high round neck and very short sleeves, both outlined with black. But beware the high round neck if you are just a little plump. .To return to the blouse, it is tucked into the belt of a wrapover skirt of-fine black tweed with a white fleck; the accompanying coat is a three-quarter one, as narrow as the ' skirt, but provided with a cape which reaches to the elbows at the sides and slants into a point to the waistline at th© back. The hat is a small cloche of the tweed stitched with alternate rows of thick black and thick white silk,- and having a black, and white tassel hang-, ing over the edge of the brim. . BEACH BLOUSES FOR THE ’SOUTH. • The beach blouses are made of shantung or printed cotton. They have wide round necklines in front, and V-open-ings at the back. The wrap-round skirts cover. “shorts” of the same material as the blouses, some. of the blouses and “shorts” being made in one piece. One novel ensemble deserves special mention: there, is a'swimming suit of fine white wool, with the round neckline in front and the V at the back. Over this goes a frock that is actually put on in two pieces—each piece being half, of the cross-over whole. One half, in deep rose shantung, is put on and tied at the waist; then the other half, of natural shantung, is put on and also tied at the waist, so that a cross-over frock of half-and-half colouring us the i result. • PARISIENNES’ BEACH COATS. Coats of any kind of material may be worn with these suite. Some designers offer wraps to match the skirts, but others think these are too dull, and , offer, instead, coats of hand-woven linen in gay patterns and colours. Others again show • fine canvas wraps, hand- , painted with water-proof colours and lined with bright shantung ’or.linen to • match. . Some of the wraps are not coate at all, but just big shawls of 4 woven material —wool, canvas or linen—which ar ■ wrapped round the figure like, the ’ blanket of an”. Indian woman. ■ More , practical,. however, are the long,-full capes of kasha or striped jersey.
