In reply to a question in the House of Commons, Mr. Henderson stated that no representations regarding the re-opening of the discussion of the proposed treaty had been made by the Egyptian Government. The High Commissioner in Egypt since, his return to Cairo had naturally resumed contact with the Egyptian Prime Minister, and had reported that the desire of the Egyptian Government to reach an agreement with the British Government was not diminished. Asked whether it was intended to leave the offer open indefinitely, Mr. Henderson answered in the negative, adding that up to now the Government had thought best to leave the offer where it was at the close of the recent negotiations. Replying to a further question, Mr. Henderson said there was no need for the British Government to make a further oil er of negotiations. He had made it clear that the treaty was there when the Egyptians were prepared to accept it.
