FUNDS FOR UNEMPLOYMENT

TROTTING MEETING PROPOSED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, June 14. ■ Proposals for holding . a special trotting meeting for the benefit of the citizens’ unemployment fund have been discussed by Councillor J. W. Beanland, a member of the committee, and Mr. J. Okley, who organised a trotting meeting last year for the benefit of the West Coast earthquake fund. The proposal is to apply for a permit for the meeting, and also for exemption from taxation on the profits, which it is believed would be considerable. An appeal for funds by public subscription may not, it is feared, be as successful this year as it was last year.
