GOVERNOR AT THE MOUNTAIN
VISIT DURING WEEK-END. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Bledisloe returned to New Plymouth from the North Egmont hostel yesterday evening. They spent last night in their special railway carriage, and will leave this morning for Palmerston North. The weather was ideal during thenstay at North Egmont, where they arrived on Saturday afternoon. Yesterday morning their Excellencies took a short walk through the bush in front of the hostel and across the Ngatoro Gorge. In the afternoon Lady Bledisloe and some friends went through the bush as far as the first look-out. Dr. G. Howe, who arrived at the hostel in the morning, accompanied the Governor-General to a point just below Humphries’ Castle. His Excellency took a keen interest in the mountain flora. In the meantime Sir John Hanham, aide-de-camp, with Guide Larsen and three visitors to the hostel, climbed as far as the Lizard Rock (about 6600 feet). From that point a magnificent view of the plains and the sea was obtained, while the snow caps of Ruapehu, Ngaruhoe and . Tongariro ! rose; above the horizon. Their; expressed delight nt the beauties of the mountain.
