ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

TARANAKI COUNCIL MEETS. A meeting of the council of the Taranaki Acclimatisation .Society was held last evening, there being present; Mr. W. R. Johns (chairman), N. C. Fookes, 8. R. Darlow, W. S. James, A. E. Baker and W. Bamsey. The chairman reported that a working bee had been held at the hatchery in May, and splendid work had been done, saving the society from £25 to £3O. Replies were received from different associations regarding the purchasing of fish. It was resolved to purchase 150,000 Rainbow trout from Rotorua. A reply was received from Wellington regarding the revision of opossum trapping conditions. ! ,. Twenty licenses had been issued so far for opossum-trapping, it was reported. It was decided to ask Mr. C. M. Hill to furnish a report regarding bird life in the district. A hatchery committee was elected to advise the curator in his work.
