BETTER PRICES IN LONDON ■FORECASTS MORE OPTIMISTIC. CANADIAN DEMAND HAS EFFECT. (By Wire —Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. There is an improvement in the London dairy produce market. Cablegrams received by Auckland merchants to-day reveal a rise in prices and contain optimistic forecasts of the trend of the market, which was reported to be firm at the close of a quiet week. The demand for both butter and cheese had improved and rising prices were indicated. “The market shows, a distinct improvement and if we may view it from the experience of previous years I should say that the advance is quite likely to continue, particularly with the demand from Canada,” said a member of an exporting. inquiries now being made for supplies indicated that in anticipation of the coming into force of increased duty exports of butter to Canada would be heavy during the' next month or two. The. outlook was more definitely reassuring now than it had been at any time during the past few months. There was an accumulation of stocks in London and in New Zealand, but the latter was likely to be relieved by the Canadian demand. September and October marked the period of short mipplies in Britain, and the records of recent years, excluding the “control” period, showed that increased prices might be expected from August, when butter that' was now going forward would reach the market, until the end of October. Quotations received under the date of June 6 give the price of finest butter at from 130 s to 1325,. with a brisk demand and an outlook for higher prices. New Zealand white cheese is quoted at 77s and coloured at 83s to 84s. The ■demand is steady and the market firm, with an upward tendency.
