HAWERA JERSEY SALE

POOR DEMAND FOR YOUNG STOCK. Bidding was anything but animated at the Hawera Jersey Cattle Club’s annual pedigree female sale yesterday, when the Farmers’ Co-op. and Newton King, Ltd., offered 56 head of cattle. Only 24 were sold under the hammer but the bulk of the remainder was sold by private treaty. The catalogue consisted mainly of heifers, only four older cows, one of which was sold, being offered. Twelve yearlings were sold at prices averaging £l3 2s 10d and the prices for 11 two-year-olds averaged £l7 10s lOd. The most prominent buyer was Mr. A. E. Missen, Hamilton, who purchased 12 animals. PATEA NEWS. SCHOOL DENTAL CLINIC. Mr. R. C. Moore presided at the monthly meeting of the Patea school committee on Friday last. The sub-committee set up to deal with the fences and school gates reported that both jobs had been executed at a total expenditure of £ll. The cutting down of tho hedge row enabled the dental clinic building to be seen from the road as well as improving the Victoria' Egmont Street intersection for motorists. The report was adopted. When the furnishing of the dental clinic is completed the nurse will commence her duties immediately. Tho secretary (Rev. 0. Aker) and Mr. May were appointed as Patea school’s representatives on the dental clinic committee that is to he set up. The Wanganui Education Board estimated that fl 3 10s would be necessary for furnishings, tho cost of which, it is anticipated, will be borne by the benefiting schools on fl pro rata basis. A sum of money already in hand will bo made available to the dental clinic committee as soon as that body is formed. T) i chairman and Mr. W.
