BRITISH CABINET CHANGES TWO SEATS RELINQUISHED AGRICULTURE AND MINES British Wireless. Rugby, June 5 Mr. Noel Bux'ton, Minister of Agriculture, to-day informed the Prime Minister that ho was reluctantly compelled by ill-health to resign his seat and to ask to be released from his responsibilities. Mr. Ben Turner, Secretary for Mines, also resigned. In reply to Mr. Bux'ton, Mr. MacDonald said he was greatly troubled to k-now that Mr. Buxton’s health would not enable him to carry on the Ministry of Agriculture, and added: “In asking his Majesty to accept youi resignation .1 cannot forget that we‘owe to ydfi the establishment of a statutory wage for farm workers and the creation of the Marketing Division of the Ministry'" of Agriculture, which has laid the foundation of all 'the marketing.schemes for home-grown produce. For these and other services agriculture is deeply indebted to you.” A peerage was conferred upon Mt. Buxton this week, it being included in the list of his Majesty’s ‘birthday honours.

Mr. Ben Turner, writing to the Prime Minister, said: “The Coal Bill is practically out of the way and, after 11 months of hard, worrying work, I ask you shortly to release me from the position of Secretary of Mines. I thank you for having’ given me the opportunity of serving in your Government. It is an honour I fully appreciate, and I deeply regret asking you to relieve me of my office.” ’ . . Mr, MacDonald, replying, accepted with regret Mr. Turner’s resignation, adding: “The tremendous amount of work pressing on us from all sides makes life very hard and, whether we like it or not, necessitates sacrifice in certain directions in order that we may concentrate what influence we have in the best and most effective way. I hope that, although the services you have already rendered to the Labour movement have extended over a .great number of years, you will be able to continue them for a very long time yet.” In addition to Messrs Thomas and Hartshorn the King has approved the following appointments: Dr, Christopher Addison, to be Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries in place of Mr. Buxton. Earl de la Warr to be Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture and Deputy Minister of Fisheries, in place of Dr. Addison. Lord Marley to bo Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the War Office, in place of Lord de la Warr. • Mr. Emanuel Shinwell to be Secretary of Mines, in place of Mr. Turner. Mr. Stephen Sanders to be Financial Secretary to the VV ar Office in place of Mr. Shinwell. Lord Passfield remains Secretary of the Colonics.
