TROUBLE IN THE STREET. A contractor’s bold scheme to shift a house bodily from one site- to another almost ended in disaster at Ryde, near Sydney. The building was jacked up from the foundations, and wheels were placed under it. A motor-tractor was then attached, and the journey commenced.
The crew had trouble in steering their unwieldy charge along the narrow streets. Whenever the house eommenc‘ed to slew round or a mbtor-car appeared a- halt was called. At a street corner the experiment almost came to an abrupt end. The house struck against telegraph poles on each side of the street and held fast.
