GIRL’S PLANE REPAIRED
WILL RESUME FLIGHT TO-DAY
EXCITEMENT GROWS AT DARWIN.
MAY EVEN YET CREATE RECORD
By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 11 p.m. Darwin, May 15. Excitement grows here over the prospect of the early arrival of Miss Amy Johnson, who will leave Rangoon tomorrow on her flight from London to Australia. Mayor Lucas is arranging a civic reception and the Victoria League is preparing to entertain the visitor during her stay. The Government resident commissioner is taking no part as the flight is unofficial. An examination of Miss Johnson’s plane at Rangoon yesterday morning showed the damage sustained in the forced landing on Tuesday was not serious. The wheel, fuselage and wing fabrics were repaired locally. Miss Johnson is the guest of Mr. Shaw, the Institute’s principal. Miss Johnson’s plane is being towed to the Rangoon racecourse, where test, flights will be made this afternoon. If they are successful she will resume the flight to-morrow. The weather at Ran-' o-oon is fair, but beyond it is very bad. ° Interrogated Miss Johnson said to beat Bert Hinkler’s record by days was impossible, but it was possible to beat it by flying hours. Although yesterday’s cables from Rangoon stated Miss ’Johnson intended to. make the return flight from Darwin within a fortnight, advices received in Sydney to-day declare she is coming on to Sydney.
