TRAGEDY AT WANGANUI DIED BEFORE MOTHER’S EYES MAN SURRENDERS HIMSELF DRAMA AT VICTIM’S HOME By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui/ Last Night. Staggering down a flight of 18 stairs with a gaping wound in her throat at about 3.30 p.m. to-day, the 21-ycar-old daughter of Mrs. O. Cromarty, 6 Ridgway Street, made an effort to speak but tumbled face down through the kitchen door and died on the floor before her mother’s eyes. Down the stairs behind the girl came a man who was residing in the same?** house. He left by the front door and j snatching a bicycle rode away as fast t as he could. The distracted ‘mother .1 rushed to the gateway crying: “He’s after my bairn, he’s after my bairn, won’t anyone help me?” Just on three hours later the man, Herbert Frederick Manley, aged .38, walked into the Wanganui central police station and said: “I’m the man you’re looking for.” He was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Gladys Cromarty,
