MANGOREI INGLESIDE

FUNCTION IS WELL ATTENDED.

The Mangorei hall was filled to overflowing last night when the members of the New Plymouth Caledonian Society staged one of their inglesides. Admirers of Scotch dancing and airs were drawn from all parts of the countryside and entered with zest into the spirit of tho gathering. Tho hall was decorated with punga fronds hung generously around the walls, the rich, dark background- setting off the red, orange and black streamers which were suspended, from the middle of tlie ceiling. The floor was in perfect condition, perhaps a little fast for the old-fashioned dances.

Played in by Pipers- P. Black and O. Goebel, the haggis was carried*round the hall by Haggis-bearer A. Rankin and Burns’ ode was delivered by the chief. Dr.' D. E. Brown. The delicacy was served and then' followed an excellent supper provided by the ladies’ committee of the Mangorei hall, Mesdames Pearce, Hawke, Jamieson and Fisher. In the earlier part of the evening Miss Beryl King dclightccL-with an exhibition of the Highland fling. ■ For : in encore she did tho sword dance. Piper J. McKinnon played for the two dances., The music for the waltzes and modem dances was provided by Martin’s orchestra. Messrs. W. Jones and J. Corkill were masters of ceremonies.
