MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Eighteen householders attended the annual meeting in the primary school, Mr. G. Hutton presiding. The annual report stated that apart from the usual routine work the committee’s efforts had been mainly towards the improvement of the high school. It was pleasing to report that after many disappointments Mr. Chas. Wesley came forward and supervised the laying down of two tennis or basketball courts. Appreciation of the work of Mr. Wesley and hie two sons was recorded. The total cost was £240. The committee provided £l2O. A great deal of preliminary work was done by the boys which assisted in lessening the cost. The grounds had been planted • with a large number of different trees. Mr. Grover donated £5 towards the cost- of the trees. The committee had made arrangemente to further improve the grounds. The pupils were constructing a rockery in front of the school ground? under the supervision of Mr.’ Caigou. The heating of the high school rooms by steam pipes was a failure. It was necessary to improve this before the winter set- in. The amount raised locally for school purposes was £97. The committee placed on record appreciation of the assistance afforded by the headmaster (Mr. Burgess). The finances of the committee were in a healthy state. Credits in the two accounts were £27 19s 5d and £5l 10s lOd. The picnic at Stratford was attended by 400 persons and it was hoped to make it. an annual one, reported the chairman. On the motion of Mr. T. P. Hughson the reports were adopted and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing committee. Messrs. G. H. Hutton (chairman), A. Hindi, A. K. McNae, S. J. Bier, T. P. Hughson and A. Raynor (secretary) were elected the ■ committee. All the old members nominated were re-elected. The Opunake Town Board met 'on Monday evening. Members present were Cra.- A. J. Brennan .(chairman), F. Hammond, W. J. S. Dudley and H. Booker. Application for a footpath to Messrs. Fake and Ritchie’s dwellings were approved. Improvements to manyother streets were reported on by the foreman (Mr. J. De Castro). Fillings on the cemetery road were being proceeded with. Mr. C. W. Newport, in charge of the Opunake branch of the Stock Department, has been notified of his transfer to the Taihape district-.
