PLUNKET SOCIETY

EXTENSION TO URENUI. As a result of a meeting of ladies ' at Urenui on Monday the activities of the Plunket Society have now extended permanently to the north eoastal district. ■ . The following;members of the. New Plymouth Plunket Society, Mesdames R. Dock (a patron of the society), W, G.: Weston, G. E. Williams and. : -C. S. Mayer, met the ladies of Urenui and Okoke. Those present from Urenui (were: Mesdames C. Smith, E. Elliot, G. Fuller, R. Bi-amald and C, W. Hen wood;. Okoke was represented by the following: Mesdames 11. Grylls, A. Lord, J. Bourse, W. Henwobd, A. B. Jones, M, E. Fraser, I. Fraser, A. F, Jones, W. J. Wright, E. Whittaker, sen., and A. McKeown. In the absence of Mrs. I. M. ’Kidd, president of the New. Plymouth branch, tlie chair was occupied by Mrs. W. G. Weston, who spoke on the aims and objects of the/Plunket. Society, pointing out the manner in which the health of mother and (babe' is guarded and cared for through the agency of a Plunket nurse, whose advice and service is free to all. The hope was expressed that all in the district -who. cam afford to do so will help in this excellent cause by joining as members at the mini mum annual subscription of 55., Ari the New Plyhiouth’ branch has recently had a sum of £2s z donated by the New Ply mouth"-Savings Bank, the committee is desirous of assisting Urenui in its initial outlay and has offered to pay half the cost of the. scales required ‘ for the weighing of babies, a decision which met with much appreciation. It was arranged that a fortnightly service would be commenced on Jun© 2, when Nurse Petersen, senior. Plun,ket nurse, will be in attendance at Urenui.

The following ladies were elected to form a Plunket comfnittee: —President, Mrs- Chris. ‘Smith; vice-president, Mrs. C. V 7. Hen wood; honorary secretary, Mrs. H. Grylls; honorary treasurer, Mtb. G. Fuller; committee, Mesdames J. Wright, Fraser, R. Bramald, E. .Elliot, R. Andrews, G. Pigott and G. Loveridge.
