Mr. C. E. Harvey, Wellington, is in New Plymouth for a few days. Mr. W. B. Grant, member of the Board of Agriculture, left New Plymouth for Wellington yesterday. The Premier of New South Wales, Mr. T. R. Bavin, is ill, the Australian Press Association cables from Sydney. Mr. Hamilton Nimmo, senr., and Mr. Bert Nimino, Wellington, are on a short' visit to New Plymouth. Mr. W. M. Webster, M.R.C.V.S., of the Department of Agriculture, left New Plymouth for Wellington yesterday.
A resolution of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. C. J. Belcher was passed yesterday at the meeting of the Inglewood County Council. Sympathy with the widow and relatives of Sir George Clifford was expressed by the Taranaki District Committee of the Racing Conference last night. The Hon. W. A. Veitch, Minister of Mines, arrives in New Plymouth to-day, to officially open Coal, Oil (N.Z.) : Ltd.’s oil bore at Omata.
A Wellington message (states that Mr.; J. R. Sutcliffe, B.Sc_, first .assistant at. Wellesley Boys’.‘College,, has, been appointed.principal. of, Scots College., There, were 30 applicants. Mr. S; 'C. Judd, of the Stratford Public Works office, notified the Inglewood County Council yesterday of hio. acceptance of his appointment as engineer to the council. Mr. Judd will take up his duties on June 2.
Visitors to New Plymouth staying at the Criterion are Mr. J. D. Fraser, Liverpool, Mr. and Mrs. Hunt, Te Aroha, Mr. Bernard Hale, Christchurch, Mr, J. Robertson, Post and Telegraphs, Wellington, Mr. J. Weingott, Auckland, Mr. A. Corn,' Napier. Mr. R. Thorne, who has filled the position of first assistant for the past five years at the Cape Egmont Dairy Company, was recently selected from 62 applicants for the position of manager of the Papatawa Dairy. Company, Woodville. Mr. Thorne takes up his new duties on July I.
The New Zealand board of directors of the New Zealand Shipping Company has elected Mr. Joseph Studholme a director of the company in place of the late Sir George Clifford, reports the Press Association from Christchurch.
Amongst the successful candidates at the last examination for State registration of midwives were Phyllis Esselmont Reinhardt (Stratford hospital) and Olive Victoria H'.il (now at the McHardy Home, Napier, but trained in the New Plymouth public, hospital). Ethel Gertrude Horn (Opunake Cottage Hospital) passed her maternity nunpe examination with over 75 per cent, of the maximum marks.
