DAMAGES FOR WATERSIDER
STOPPED FROM SECURING WORK. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, May 5. Thomas Moylan (commonly known as Paddy Miles) was to-day awarded 1218 damages by Mr. Justice Smith against the Waterside Workers’ Union and its walking delegate (Robert Irvine) for conspiracy to prevent him from earning a livelihood on the waterfront. In awarding damages Mr. Justice Smith-found that- Irvine had determined by ..Apr- 1920, that Moylan would get no more work/on the Auckland waterfront, that Irvine stopped men on the ame~ Port ’apier from working with Moylan and that Irvine was instrumental in procuring Moylan’s discharge from .the Tof-tia. , ,■ • ... • , ; . The j”dge also found that the, union either knew and approved, or : was responsible for, Irvine’s attitude and actions.
