TUG-OF-WAR AT RAHOTU

KAHUI TEAMS PROMINENT. The Rahotu Croquet Club’s tug-of-'war-and lazy-stick competitions were concluded on Wednesday night, when there wa® a good attendance of spectators. The remaining tug-of-war pulls resulted ; — Lightweight. Kahui defeated Kia Ora. In the first half minute Kahui gained six inches, which they increased to win by six and a-half inches. Mangahume. defeated a scratch Rahotu team. —At the end of one and flhalf minutes Mangahume had gained five inches. Rahotu reduced the margin to three and a-half inches by desperate pulling,, but Mangahume proved too strong and won by four inches. Kahui defeated Mangahume. For the first half minute neither gained any advantage. After two minute® Kahui had a lead of seven inches. Mangahume pulled desperately but Kahui won by six and a-half inches.

Kahui defeated. Mangahume in the final. Neither team.had any advantage in the first minute. At the end of two minutes Kahui had taken four and flhalf inches of rope which they increased to five inches after a strenuous pull. Heavyweight.

Kahui defeated Brownies. Honours were very even for the first two minutes, Kahui having a slight advantage and winning by two inehe®. Kahui defeated Brownies in the final. Kahui immediately took two inches, but at the end of a minute Brownies had a lead of an ineh and a-hlaf. At two minutes honours were even. After a desperate fight Kahui won by an inch and a-half.

The cup for the lightweight lazystick competition was won by Miro Ngaio, with B. Hooker runner-up. As there were insufficient entries in the heavyweight class a featherweight contest was instituted. This was won by C. Looney, with E. Looney runnerup. The carnival will be concluded by a dance in the Rahotu Hall on Friday night.
