Rec. 7.35 p.m. London, April 30. There were frenzied scenes at North Shields quayside when a fight broke out between Arabs and unemployed seamen, who are protesting against the signing on of coloured firemen. The weapons included knives, daggers, hammers and iron, files. The police broke up ■ the fight with batons. Some of the Arabs jumped into the river and were pursued by the police in rowing boats. Three Englishmen and one coloured man were seriously injured.
