SNAKE IN CRADLE

BABY’S BOTTLE ROBBED.

MAN ATTACKED BY REPTILE. Angered by the loss of its food, a three-foot snake attacked Mr. William McLennan at his home at Fawkner, on a recent night and bit him on the ankle. Mr. McLennan had just rescued his son Robert, aged 12 months, from the snake, which had been sucking milk from a bottle in the baby’s cradle. Mr. McLennan was admitted to the Melbourne Hospital and quickly recovered from the effects of the bite. He says he believes that the reptile was a tiger snake, one of the few snakes in Australia, it is said, which will attack without provocation. Mr. McLennan said that the snake had been in the cradle for some time, as it had pulled the bottle away from the baby’s side and was sucking at the teat when disturbed.
