CARD PARTY WELL ATTENDED. There was a good gathering at the card party last Tuesday, 14 tables taking part. Mrs. W. Corbett and Mr. M. Goodin were the successful euchre players, while Mrs. Fox and Mr. R. F. Roebuck carried off bridge honours. The ladies’ guild supplied the usual nice supper. ANGLICAN CHURCH MEETING. The annual meeting of the Okato parochial district was held in Hempton Hall on Thursday. About 50 parishioners were present from all parts of tiie district. The balance-sheet showed a credit 'balance of £4B, which was considered very satisfactory. Statistics disclosed a most pleasing, increase in the church attendance.
The long and faithful service of the late Mr. W. J. Gray was the subject of appropriate remarks by the vicar, Air. J. S. Fox (who had been associated with him in church matters for 30 years) and Mr. George Gibson (Rahotu). The loss of another good church worker, Mr. H. J. Ballinger, was feelingly remarked on by Air. W. J. Houeyfield and Air. Fox, the meeting afterwards standing. A most important event of the year was the generous gift of Airs. W. R. Wright 1 (Rahotu), which has enabled the Church of St. Nicholas to be provided with a beautiful chancel.
Owing to the ago and general unsuitability of the present vicarage it was resolved that the central vestry be asked to create a vicarage building fund.
Officers are as follows:—Vicar’s warden, Air. L. H. Andrews; people’s war* den and secretary, Mr. E. B. Corbett; vestrymen, Messrs Gibson and Butler (Rahotu), Smith (Pungarehu), C. W. Corbett (Warea), Cooke and Ball (Puniho), Cocksedge, T. E. Larking (Okato) W. Honeyfield (Tataraimaka), W. K. Alorris (Oakura), and J; Blakely (Koru). In moving a vote of thanks to the vicar (Rev. J. Adams), Mr. George Gibson laid particular stress on the very enthusiastic and conscientious manner in which he had carried out his work during the year. It was chiefly to this that he attributed the splendid results achieved. In coupling the name of Rev. H. Sinclair with the vicar’s, he stated that the latter’s appointment had proved a happy one as in him the parish had a man of considerable promise. Air. Adams thanked those present, and mentioned that it was chiefly the decision of the vestry in giving him the assistance of Air. Sinclair that had enabled him to increase services and carry out so many visitations. Alesdames L. H. Andrews, and E. B. Corbett and Aliss Walton kindly provided supper, which was much appreciated. VALUABLE I.MPROVEMEN IS. Having completed the new open "air classroom, the Education Board's workmen are busy applying- a much needed coat of paint to the old scho.il. An enthusiastic baud of workers was at work at St. Paul’s Church on Wednesday and Thursday and completed the laying of the concrete pathway from the road to the church and around to the vestry door. An excellent job was made of the work which will be a great boon in the winter. The painting of the building will be put in hand immediately. PERSONAL. The Rev. W. Wilson, of Apiti, who succeeded the Rev. R. Tapp, arrived last week, accompanied by Airs. Wilson. Air. A. J. Smith is on a visit to the South Island. ANZAC DAY. A combined service conducted by the Rev. J. Adams and the Rev. 11. Sinclair (Anglican), and the Rev. W. Wilson (Methodist), was held in (he hall on the evening of Anzne Day, about 109 being present.
