ABORTIVE ELECTIONS
SCHOOL COMMITTEE'S’ PROTEST.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Wellington, April 26.
The election of school committees will take place throughout the Wellington Education Board’s district on Monday evening. Some of the retiring committees have already expressed themselves strongly in their reports on the question of reduction in capitation grants, and nominations for places on the new committees are in many instances far from numerous. Nominations in respect of schools with over 240 pupils closed on Tuesday and names will not be accepted at the meetings. Only one nomination has been received for the nine seats on the Brooklyn School Committee, none of the retiring members standing in accordance ..with the attitude taken up in regard to the reduction in grants. Half the retiring members of the Terrace School Committee are not eligible, and the others have decided not to act again. No nominations have been received in respect of the vacancies. A similar position exists at Hataitai.
