By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright,
Ottawa, April 25.
The Prime , Minister, Mr. W. L. Mackenzie King, to-day denied that before the appointment of Lord Willingdon he had sounded the. British Government to see if it wae possible to appoint a Canadian. A London cable was quoted by the Daily News to the effect that the Prime Minister had raised the point at the time of Lord Byng’e retirement, and that Mr. L. C. M. S. Amery had informed the- Canadian -High Commissioner, Sir P. C. Larkin, that it would be impossible. The Prime Minister said he had exchanged communications not- with Mr. Amery but with Mr. Baldwin. The question of appointing a Canadian had not been raised, nor had it since. Mr. King said his position was that Canada had the right to select a Canadian, Rut the prime requirement' was that the person should be acceptable to the Canadian Government. He commented that Canada had been fortunate in the appointments made.
