By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Invercargill, April 24.
Le Isie George Hinton, a single man aged 26, pleaded guilty this morning to selling liquor at Makarewa without a license.
The evidence disclosed that' defendant was employed at the Makarewa freezing works as a slaughterman and bought beer and whisky and retailed them to the men. He put the beer in whisky bottles and sold them at Is 9d each and whisky in flasks, which were filled three parts full, and the remainder was water. These he sold at 10s. Senior-Sergeant Fox said that defendant was more foolish than criminal. He was fined £6, the magistrate remarking that he would not treat the matter so ecriously since he was acting on the request of his workmates.
