BRIGHT RANDWICK RACING

PHAR LAP'S GREAT RECORD AMOUNIS DEFEATS NIGHTMARCH. NEW ZEALANDERS RACE WELL. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 8.15 p.m. Sydney, April. 26. Dull weather and light showers prevailed for the third day of the autumn meeting at Randwick to-day. Fast times indicated that the track was not affected by the weather conditions and much recent racing. The attendance was 27,000. There were two weight-for-age contests which produced the champions Nightmarch, Phar Lap and Amounis. The Champagne Stakes, which brought together the season’s best two-year-olds, provided delightful racing. The All-Aged Stakes was expectedto provide a thrilling duel between Nightmarch and Amounis, but Nightmarch was unable to \stand up to. the powerful finishing effort of Amounis, which reached the judge a length ahead of the New Zealander. Goshawk captured the second division of the Coogee Handicap in smart style. After running prominently throughout Goshawk came away at the distance to win, with ease by three lengths. Phar Lap gave a splendid exhibition j of galloping, running the mile and three- i quarters of the Cumberland Stakes unattended in 2min 58:}sec, a Randwiek record. The New Zealander, Sir ..Roy, was unfavourably placed ih the early stages of the City Handicap, but put in~ a splendid finishing -effort to gain third money. Results are: —
