UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT
AUCKLAND WINS TENNIS.

Auckland, Last Night.
Canterbury and Auckland shared the honours in the two finals in the tennis section of the Universities’ tournament, which were decided to-day. The ladies’ single championship, which was held! by Auckland, was won for Canterbury by Miss Sherris, who defeated Miss R. Taylor (Auckland) 6—l, 6—l. In the combined doubles Miss N. Whitelaw and A. H. McDonald (Auckla. ’) defeated Miss Sherris »”d Beatson (Canterbury) and thereby retained the title for Auckland and maintained Auckland’a big lead’ in the competition for the tennis challenge cup. As only Auckland players are left to contest the remaining tennis finals on Saturday the points thus gained in tennis gives Auckland the University tournament shield. Results are: — Ladies’ Singles (final). —Miss Sherris (Canterbury.) beat Miss R. Taylor (Auckland), 6 —l, 6—l Combined Doubles (final). —Miss N. Whitelaw and A. H. McDonald (Auckland) beat Miss Sherris and J. Beatson (Canterbury), 6 —4, 3—6, 6—l.
