A CHANCELESS INNINGS J ■ / WAIRARAPA ESCAPES DEFEAT EXCITING QUARTER OF AN HOUR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Masterton, Last Night. The cricket match between M.C.C. ami Wairarapa resulted in a draw. The visitors, continuing their first innings, declared with six wickets down for 274, and Wairarapa in the second effort made 144, being all out four minutes before time. 1 > Bowley, who made 124, including 20 fours, gave a practically chanceless display, scoring all round the wicket, Earle opened out for his 44, including one six. Woolley batted steadily for his unbeaten 40, but did not appear to : be troubled with the bowling. He scored one six. The Wairarapa fielding was keen making runs hard to get. ■ Play was interrupted at 1 o’clock with rain and was not resumed until • 3 o’clock. The feature of Wairarapa's second was Uttley’s stonewalling. Montgomery and Hdrnabrook opened well and the match developed into an. exciting finish, Wairarapa requiring 15 runs in 15 minutes to avoid defeat,- This they exceeded by II runs and the match was drawn. Bowlcy’s breaks off a somewhat soft wicket, on which sawdust was used after the rain, were troublesome. Cornford gave a sparkling display behind thd wickets, taking some , difficult catches.
