SCHOOL PICNIC NEXT WEEK. The monthly meeting of the Manaia school committee was held on Wednesday. There were present: Messrs. A Ganilin (chairman), G. H. Edwards, C Sole T. A. Bridge (treasurer), J. 1Clamie .and Mrs. A. Gamlin (secretary) The sum of £3O 16s. 3d. was received from the Education Board >S capitation for the quarter ending. December. The Department provisionally approved of a subsidy of: £35 on account of grounds improvement. nr . Adyice was received that ..Miss Al. McLeod had' been, appointed secondary as-, distant -and Mr. Theodore Bailey proba.tionary assistant. ' . - The headmaster (Mr. J, Nairn) reported that one higher leaving certifi; cate’ three matriculation successes and one partial accountancy preliminary had been ‘ secured. Seven senior free places were obtained by pupils of the school. . i v'u The school picnic, is ,t° be held at Kaupokonui beach on Friday, February 7 according to a decision reached by the committee: ’ The wives of the members of the committee were' appointed a committee, with power to add, to make arrangements. for -catering. Mrs. > Gamlin was appointed epnyenbr. ,- - .... < . ' It was stated that school would resume on Monday next, February 3. A school holiday on Wednesday, February 19,/was granted bn the occasion of the Waimate show.
