RYDER MAKES A CENTURY
DISPLAY SILENCES CRITICS. VICTORIANS’ SPARKLING BATTING. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 8.50 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 29. In the Sheffield Shield cricket match, in which New South Wales had made 330 in the first innings, Victoria to-day continued batting. The overnight score was 45 for two wickets, and the total was increased to 222 for three wickets before stumps were drawn. The match was drawn. Ryder’e batting to-day was sparkling and-vigorous and silenced the critics who were questioning his right to inclusion in the test tour. Hendry had two lives, being missed badly by Theak, who eventually caught him. It was Theak’s first appearance in first-class cricket and he bowled really well. It was a short day’s play, the Victorians leaving immediately after the match for Brisbane, where they play on Friday. Scores: —• NEW SOUTH WALES. First innings 330 VICTORIA. First Innings. R.
