MATCH AGAINST M.C.C. TEAM ENGLISHMEN 74 FOR ONE WICKET. RAIN DELAYS COMMENCEMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Masterton, Last Night. After delay owing to rain play commenced this afternoon in the match between M.C.C. and Wairarapa. Wairarapa were dismissed for 141 runs and M.C.C. had reached 74 for the loss of one wk'ket when stumps were drawn. The home side won the toss and decided to bat. The opening batsmen fared badl”, four wickets being down for 28 runs. Blamires, the Wairarapa captain, partnered Massey and these two made a splendid stand, Blamires giving an excellent di-play for 49, putting in some good and forceful shots. He played confidently. Massey also gave a bright display. The other Wairarapa batsmen, except Hoar, did not do much good against Worthington’s lightning bowling. Worthington took seven wickets for 31 runs. The last four wickets fell in quick succession. Bowley and Dawson opened the M.C.C. innings. Bowley compiled a forceful 53 unbeaten. Dawson, however, went out for a modest 14, and at the drawing of stumps for the day M.C.C. had one wicket down for 74. Massey, Wairarapa’s moderate fast bowler, had the English batsmen troubled.
